THE START OF A NEW YEAR

A gorgeous start to a new year. Out scouting for some high ground Plateau compositions under the most amazingly HUGE blue sky.

It is difficult not to be inspired by the colours of land like this. Even in the winter, the dry straw coloured grassland, chalky white outcrops, distant lines of hills in deep blues and soft greys and that sky, such a vibrant clear blue.

Alongside this I've been working on some forest/river paintings. I like to work on different types of landscape preferably alternating between the open high hills and the deep closed in intensity of forests and rivers. I'm loving the dark shaded zones and the reflections in the water at the moment. One side of the river bank totally lit up the other deeply shaded. It's here in the dark patches that so many colours hide.
